Council Work

Planning Committee

Scrutinising development proposals across one of London's most contested boroughs.

Marc sits on both the Planning Committee and the Planning Applications Committee at RBKC. These committees scrutinise planning applications and major development proposals across the Royal Borough, one of the most architecturally sensitive and development-pressured areas in London.

Marc brings a distinctive approach to planning work. Where many councillors approach planning decisions through the lens of politics or neighbourhood sentiment alone, Marc applies the same analytical discipline he used in clinical research: examining evidence, interrogating assumptions, and asking what the data actually supports.

Areas of focus

  • The tension between housing delivery and the preservation of neighbourhood character in Norland and across the Borough.
  • Ensuring that major development proposals are held to account on design quality, sustainability standards, and community impact.
  • Opposing proposals that would damage the streetscape or amenity of residential areas, including the controversial Holland Park roundabout lane change proposals.
  • Transparency in the planning process and robust scrutiny of officer recommendations.

The Planning Committee meets regularly throughout the council year. Marc attends all meetings and takes his responsibility to represent residents seriously, including declaring interests where required and maintaining a public voting record.
